Type & PaperA font journal for makers

The font journal

Our approach

A font shortlist starts with something you want to make.

Type & Paper is an independent font journal for people making gift tags, invitations, labels and small brand projects. We organise our guides around those projects, with a small selection of distinct lettering directions rather than a long list of interchangeable names.

What you will find in a guide.

Each shortlist shows original product previews with the designer credited. We explain the visible character of the lettering, suggest a practical role for it and point out what to check in your own design. A fine serif, a connected script and a decorative initial serve different purposes; the guide should help you decide which one your project actually needs.

Our styling suggestions are editorial ideas based on the original specimens. The previews remain the designers’ work. If a picture shows packaging, a sign or stationery, it demonstrates a visual direction; check the product listing to see what files are included.

Go from a shortlist to your own words.

Open a font’s original listing on Creative Fabrica, inspect its full specimen and check the exact name, punctuation and accented letters you need. Then make a layout at the intended size. For physical production, a proof on the actual paper or material is more useful than judging a screen image alone.

How our links work.

Some links on Type & Paper are affiliate links to Creative Fabrica. We may earn a commission when you purchase through them. The linked product pages provide the current offers, available styles, download options and licenses. Offers may involve an individual product or a subscription; review the option you select on Creative Fabrica.

Our approach

Good type starts
with a real project.

We look at fonts through the things you can make with them: a gift tag, a wedding invitation, a shop sign, a favorite shirt. Each guide connects a lettering direction with fonts you can explore for yourself.
